What should I look for in a tree service company?

Reviews are a great source.  Check google and the BBB to see what prior customers are saying about them.  Also,  ensure the company carries General Liability Insurance and Worker Compensation on their employees.  Companies like Duce Tree Service in Jacksonville, FL, provide professional expertise, safety, and accountability on every job so you are protected.

When is the best time of year to trim trees in Florida?

General maintenance trimming can be done year-round in Florida. However, major pruning or reduction cuts are best completed in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.  Airborne Fungi are also prevalent in the fall putting large cuts at risk.  therefore, proper timing helps protect tree health and encourages strong seasonal growth.

How much does it cost to trim or remove a tree?

Generally, legitimate tree services need around $400 an hour to sustain expenses.  Size and complexity of the job coupled with liability concerns can increase the cost.

What happens to the tree after it’s removed?

Usable wood may be repurposed as firewood or lumber.  All remaining tree debris is chipped and recycled into mulch.

Is Duce Tree Service insured?

Yes. Duce Tree Service is fully insured and carries workers’ compensation for all team members, giving homeowners peace of mind on every project.

Should I fertilize my trees?

Best Management Practices say Tree fertilization should be based on a soil test to determine nutrient deficiencies.  Applying the right fertilizer at the right time improves tree health, but over-fertilizing can be harmful.

Why should I trim or prune my trees?

Tree trimming is always purpose driven.  Factors include; reduce risk of failure, provide clearance, reduce shade and wind resistance, improve health, influence flower or fruit production, improve view, improve aesthetics and increase life span.

What’s the difference between tree trimming and pruning?

The terms are generally interchangeable and mean the same thing.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

Some cities and HOAs in Florida require a permit for tree removal. Homeowners are responsible for confirming local requirements before scheduling tree work. Our team can help guide you through the process if needed.

Do I need to be home during tree removal or trimming?

Do I need to be there for the estimate?

We prefer to meet in person for estimates, but we can complete assessments without the homeowner present if access is available and clear instructions are provided.

What is a Certified Arborist?

A Certified Arborist is a tree care professional who has proven their expertise and dedication to the industry through accreditation by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).  Maintaining this certification requires continuous education and adherence to strict professional standards—setting them apart from typical tree workers, estimators, or company owners. When you hire a Certified Arborist, you’re choosing someone fully committed to the science, safety, and long-term care of your trees.

Is your arborist certified?

Yes. The owner has been an ISA Certified Arborist since 2014.  He currently conducts all the estimates and is on-site for every job, ensuring expert care and industry compliance from planning to execution.

Can you tell if a tree is going to fall?

Some trees show clear signs of failure—like leaning, large cracks, or root damage. However, not all hazards are visible. Our team performs detailed evaluations to assess tree stability and risk.

We prefer cash, checks or ACH transfers.  We like to keep 3rd party members out of our transactions.  We do accept all major credit and debit cards, Venmo and Cash-app but, 3rd party charges will be added to the final balance.
